Panos Global Aids Programme Giving You a VOICE at AIDS 2010. – BLOG YOUR RIGHTS – AIDS 2010 – “Rights Here! Right Now!”
JULY 6, 2010
The international AIDS Society will this year hold is biennial Global AIDS Conference in Vienna Austria. The Conference is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV, as well as policy makers, persons living with HIV and other individuals committed to ending the pandemic. It is a chance to assess global progress in the fight against the epidemic, evaluate recent scientific developments and lessons learned, and collectively chart a course forward.
Given the 2010 deadline for universal access set by world leaders, The AIDS 2010, Global AIDS conference to be held in Vienna from July 18-23, 2010, will coincide with a major push for expanded access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
With a global economic crisis threatening to undermine public investments, the conference will help keep HIV on the front burner, and is a chance to demonstrate the importance of continued HIV investments to broader health and development goals. AIDS 2010 is also an opportunity to highlight the critical connection between human rights and HIV, a connection that if made properly and fully appreciated and acted on, will be one of the key tools to fight the epidemic.
Many of you will not be able to be at the conference, however, the Panos Global AIDS Programme, (GAP) is giving YOU and the marginalized communities you serve in your programme activities, the opportunity to BLOG YOUR RIGHTS! AND Let your voices and concerns be HEARD! READ! REGISTERED!
In keeping with the theme of the Conference “RIGHTS HERE! RIGHT NOW!” Panos GAP is inviting 150-200 word blogs from marginalised communities on their expectations from the Conference and their views. Issues include:
• Access to TB/HIV treatment, prevention services for your community
• Access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services for your community
• What would you like to say to the delegates at the Conference?
• What do you want achieved at the end of the Conference?
The Blogs will be published in GAP’s newsletter magazine, PANOSCOPE, which will be published and distributed by hand and electronically for four (4) consecutive days, (July 19, 20, 21 & 22) at the conference. The blogs will also be uploaded to GAP’s Blog Spot with links to the website at Just write your thoughts on whether or not you think that the human rights of PLWHIV and those affected are being addressed adequately by the National HIV Response programme in your respective countries, by ruling governments and institutions such as schools, the church and other individual persons.
If WE, YOU, do NOT talk. NO ONE will know.
The blog is an attempt to spread the voices and concerns of local communities, unable to participate in the Conference, to the wider world. Selected blogs will feature in Panoscope.
