Panos Caribbean launched a Youth Journalism training programme in St. Lucia in 2011. The training aims to empower youth to advocate effectively on issues that affect them by utilising the media. The programme; “Our Own Voices — Youth Communicating Through the Media” targeted 20 youth aged 12 to 16 in St. Lucia who are marginalised or vulnerable but possess strong leadership and communication skills and trained them to become effective communicators and youth advocates utilizing five interlinked approaches.
Young people in St. Lucia were trained about the rights of children and young people and produced two compelling Public Service Announcements that are based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Youth Journalism training was funded by the Commonwealth Foundation and Panos Global AIDS Programme (GAP). The PSAs can be viewed on Panos Caribbean’s Youtube Channel Here: Part 1 & Part 2 Below are some photographs taken during the training.
